Wekiva Island Junior Environmentalist Program in partnership with Idea Bar Wekiva Island 1014 Miami Springs Dr, Longwood, FL 32779 MONDAYS 4:00 - 5:30pm Ages: 6 - 17 years old Students will receive instruction weekly in the following: *Age/Level Appropriate Fishing Skills Varies based on age group but include topics such as: preparing pole and reel, knots, use of weights/bobbers/lures, casting and accuracy, selecting and use of appropriate bait, analyzing fishing conditions, gain confidence in handling bait, how to handle fish and release back safely, and much more! *Florida Wildlife & Conservation Topics include: river ecology through hands on water sampling & monitoring, Florida flora & fauna through being able to identify native plants and animals, sustainability and innovation on the island, conservation topics to inspire the next generation to protect our earth *Water and Outdoor Safety *Importance of Following Directions, Listening Skills, Patience, and Persistence All students will receive: *One Take Me Fishing merch item per session (t-shirt, hat, etc.) *Handouts sent home regularly to reinforce what is taught *Fishing poles & bait provided weekly for fishing Required Items: *Water bottle *Appropriate attire - please dress accordingly for rain and temperatures. We fish rain or shine (pending no lightning in the area)! *Fishing pole if available. We do provide poles for use during lesson if requested and are more than happy to recommend the appropriate type of pole for your child. **Attention Step Up for Students Parents. If you are planning to pay directly through the EMA Marketplace, please select "Manual Payment" when prompted to pay during registration and follow the directions to reserve the funds in your child's SUFS account. Please note, your child will not have a reserved spot until we see reserved funds in EMA. Funds must be reserved through "Idea Bar" under providers.
